Tárcoles River
The Tarcoles River, as it is more commonly known, originates on the southern slopes of the Cordillera Central volcanic range. The river is the natural habitat for American crocodiles; if you feel adventurous and want to see them up close, many local tours explore life on the river banks, where you can see these magnificent creatures from a safe distance while also spotting the many birds that share the wetlands with them such as herons and egrets. Of course, you can also see the crocodiles from the vantage point of the crossing Tarcoles bridge
